If you are looking to purchase a show prospect, are you willing to agree to a co-ownership? A co-ownership will require that we are informed of and sign off on any litters the dog produces. (The sale of any show-prospect will be accompanied by a specific contract which will require that the dog be shown regularly and health tested yearly upon reaching one year of age.)
Do you have a preference for sex, color or other trait?
Do you have a fenced in yard? If so, what kind and what height? If not how are you planning on exercising your new dog? Are you willing to walk him several times a day to relieve himself in addition to long walks for exercise?
How will you handle it when your IG has an accident in the house? No matter how well trained your IG is, this will happen sometime.
What activities do you plan on participating with your new IG?
Where will your IG spend his time? Inside the home, yard, kennel run, crate etc? If inside the home will he have full run of the house or will he be restricted? Where will your IG stay when you are at work or doing errands etc.? Where will your IG sleep at night? Where will your IG stay when you are out of town?
How do you feel about dogs being on furniture? Would you allow your IG onto the couch, bed etc.?
What kind of research have you done on Italian Greyhounds? Are you familiar housetraining issues and the possibilities of front leg fractures?
Are you financially prepared to deal with the possibility of a broken leg or other serious injury or illness?
What kind of diet will you feed your IG? If feeding commercial dog food, what brand or brands will you feed?
What vaccination protocol do you and/or your veterinarian follow?
Do you live in a geographic area with a risk of Heartworm Disease? If so what precautions will you take?
How do you plan to handle the issue of fleas? Do you plan to use chemical treatments, shampoo, natural remedies etc.?
Have you ever returned a dog for any reason and if so what was the reason?
Have you ever bred a litter of dogs? If so give a brief description.
